What is naturally leavened bread?

Naturally leavened bread, also known as sourdough, is bread made using a culture of wild yeast and beneficial bacteria instead of commercial yeast. This traditional method requires longer fermentation times (often 24-48 hours) which develops complex flavors, improves digestibility, and creates superior texture. At BreadHaus, all our breads are naturally leavened using authentic sourdough starters maintained over many years.

What types of bread do you offer?

BreadHaus offers over 30 varieties of traditional European breads including: Whole Grain breads (Oma's Multigrain, Rustic Wheat, Wildflower), Rye breads (Bavarian, Vollkorn, Finnish, Jewish), Simple breads (Grapevine Sourdough, Country, Sesame), Specialty breads (Gilroy Garlic, Mediterranean Olive, Rosemary, Jalapeño Corn, Cranberry Pecan), and German specialties (Pretzels, Brötchen, Salzstangen). We also offer 40+ sweet items including cookies, bars, streusel, bundt cakes, and pies.

Do you offer gluten-free options?

While our specialty is traditional wheat-based European breads, we do offer select gluten-free options. Please call ahead or visit our bakery to learn about current gluten-free availability, as options may vary by day. Please note that our facility processes wheat products, so cross-contamination is possible.

Do you have vegan options?

Yes! Many of our breads are naturally vegan, made with only organic flour, water, and salt. Our sourdough breads, rye breads, and several specialty breads contain no eggs, dairy, or animal products. However, some of our sweet items and specialty products do contain eggs and butter. Ask our staff for specific vegan recommendations.

Do your products contain preservatives?

No, absolutely not. BreadHaus never uses artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors in any of our products. Our breads contain only simple, pure ingredients: organic flour, water, and salt. This means our breads are best enjoyed fresh within a few days. Without preservatives, our breads may have a shorter shelf life than commercial bread, but the superior taste and health benefits are worth it. You can freeze our breads to extend their freshness.

What are the ingredients in your sourdough bread?

Our traditional sourdough bread contains just three simple ingredients: organic flour, water, and salt. That's it! No commercial yeast, no additives, no preservatives. The leavening comes from our naturally maintained sourdough starter, which contains wild yeast and beneficial bacteria. This simplicity is what true European artisan bread is all about.

Is sourdough bread easier to digest?

Yes, naturally leavened sourdough bread is generally easier to digest than bread made with commercial yeast. The long fermentation process (24-48 hours) breaks down gluten proteins and phytic acid, making the bread more digestible and allowing better nutrient absorption. The beneficial bacteria in sourdough also act as natural probiotics. Many people who have difficulty with commercial bread find they can tolerate authentic sourdough much better. What are your hours of operation?

BreadHaus is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We are closed on Sundays and Mondays. We recommend arriving early for the best selection, as many items sell out during the day. You can also order online for pickup during our business hours.

Do you ship bread nationwide?

Currently, BreadHaus does not offer nationwide shipping. Our breads are baked fresh daily and are best enjoyed within a few days, making shipping impractical. We serve customers through our Grapevine, TX location and online ordering for local pickup. However, we do offer franchise opportunities for those interested in bringing BreadHaus to their community.

How should I store my bread?

For best results, store your BreadHaus bread at room temperature in a paper bag or bread box for 2-3 days. Avoid storing in plastic, which can make the crust soft. For longer storage, slice and freeze the bread in an airtight bag for up to 3 months. Toast frozen slices directly from the freezer, or thaw at room temperature. Never refrigerate bread, as this makes it stale faster.

Can I tour your bakery or watch the baking process?

While we don't offer formal bakery tours, you can see our bakers at work from our retail area. Most of our baking happens in the early morning hours to ensure fresh bread throughout the day. After nearly three decades baking in Grapevine, BreadHaus opened its second bakery in Frisco in the summer of 2026. You'll find us in the Main Marketplace center on FM 423, just south of King Road — minutes from Little Elm, The Colony, and the neighborhoods along Lake Lewisville.

Everything we bake here follows the same rules as Grapevine: 100% organic flour, a live sourdough starter instead of commercial yeast, a slow 24–72 hour fermentation, and absolutely no preservatives, dough conditioners, or artificial additives. It's the European way of making bread — the way it was made before shortcuts — and it's why our loaves taste better, keep longer, and sit easier on the stomach.
